John Sutcliffe, Founder of Sutcliffe Vineyards is no stranger to the restaurant world. In 1973 John moved to New York City and its’ restaurant world. After managing the wildly successful Maxwell’s Plum, he helped Warner Leroy re-open Tavern on the Green. A series of restaurants followed from his new base in Charleston SC. Then Battlerock Ranch in Colorado was bought in 1992 to farm hay, and livestock. In 1995 the first vines were planted, and by 2001 the 1999 vintage was released.
Sutcliffes wines are now shipped all over the United States and lumière is proud to be pouring Sutcliffe wines.
2011 Sauvignon Blanc
Aromas and flavors of ripe grapefruit with a hint of vanilla, moving into a long finish of subtle lemon/lime with intermittent wet stone.
Muscat is rich on the nose with hints of lemon peel and a dash of allspice. Meeting the palate, Meyer lemon melds into soft caramel.
Well-balanced in perfect oak with nice upfront fruit.Great depth and beautiful acidity
This dry Riesling boasts pears and honeysuckles, with perfectly balanced acidity and minerality.
2011 Riesling Nectar
The nectar is like ripened pear wrapped in honeysuckle. A perfect after dinner wine
Beautiful red raspberry color with peachy tones fill the glass. Fragrant red currant, pomegranate, and Damson plums engulf the senses. A full mouth feel with crisp acidity.
Great fruit, acids, and tannins make this wine a pleasure to drink. This Merlot is balanced and has a backbone that delivers.
Black cherry, ripe plums, and dark chocolate followed by hint of cinnamon on the finish. All the weight and depth that one should expect from this wonderful grape.
2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature
Dusty and smoky on the nose, then leather, nutmeg and tobacco surface. This followed by the subtle aroma of forest floor, with a charming hint of violet.
Day bright, with an enticing coral-peach hue, this wine is product of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon fruit pressed and vinified as a white wine. Dry, crisp, and clean.
